If you’re a Health Studies student, specializing in one of the three areas or not, you’re supported by SAHMPI and our Peer Mentoring program! The Peer Mentoring program aims to provide students of all ages with the support they need to succeed in their transition to YorkU. We do this by providing students with one-on-one support and by facilitating group sessions and events where you can meet your peers. We host many different activity sessions based on four central themes which are open to all York students.
Make sure to check out our Peer Mentor bios. See someone you think you can connect with? We'll match you to them!
If you have any general questions regarding SAHMPIs Peer Mentoring program, please email sahmpimentoring@gmail.com or YOUR Peer Mentor!
- NATASHA SHARMA (she/her). Hello! I am a 3rd year Health Studies international student from India. I have always wanted to explore more in life. And so, I plan to discover, learn and experience a lot of things at York. This will be my first volunteering experience as a Peer Mentor. I am very excited to meet everyone and I look forward to this journey. ABOUT ME… I adore doing crafts and painting. I often look for small things that can be decorated and made beautiful. Painting calms me down and gives me time to think about myself. I also love to drive, travel and go to places.
- ARDEN USTEN (he/him). Hello! I'm a 5th year General Health Studies student. In the future I want to work in hospital administration for an organization like Mackenzie Health. In that position I would be able to contribute to the delivery of high-quality care in a high energy environment. Some hobbies of mine include reading, skateboarding, basketball, and watching anime! ABOUT ME… My biggest tips for first-year students are to keep well organized notes that are accessible come exam time, and to connect with multiple classmates to improve course clarity.
- MARYANNE IODICE (she/her). Hi! I’m a 4th year honours Health Studies student with a specialization in Management. I’m hoping to work in consulting, but we shall see what the future holds. Since arriving at York, I've worked at the Alumni Engagement office as an Alumni Support Assistant and this summer I’ve been given the opportunity to run my own project! ABOUT ME… I'm currently getting my second bachelor’s degree. I love baking, gardening and taking long walks with my dog. My motto is “your attitude will determine your altitude” (Unknown).
- FAHIMA NAKHUDA (she/her). Hi! I’m going into my 3rd third year in Health Studies specializing in Health Management. I’ve previously worked as a Course Representative and Peer Mentor. I’m a first generation student. In my first year, I found that getting involved really helped me make connections I would’ve otherwise never had. One way I did this was by accessing the Peer Mentoring program! ABOUT ME… In my free time I love to travel, craft, bake and be outdoors. My favourite color is pale yellow. I pour milk before cereal because cereal SHOULDN’T be soggy.
